Broadneck triumphant thanks to a strong effort from Mackenzie Wharton

Recap: Broadneck Bruins vs. Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders

The Broadneck Bruins entered their tilt with the Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Broadneck enjoyed a cozy 47-30 win over Eleanor Roosevelt on Saturday. Given Broadneck's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Eleanor Roosevelt is ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mackenzie Wharton was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with four blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Broadneck's points. Another player making a difference was Samantha Miller, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was McKenzie D'antignac, who scored nine points. Sakairah Sterling was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Broadneck's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Broadneck will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chesapeake at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, they will take on Wise at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Wise has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
