Basketball Recap: Croatan Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Croatan and Seventy-First squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Croatan had to settle for second. They were dealt a 58-30 defeat at the hands of the Seventy-First Falcons. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Croatan's loss came despite strong showings from Neely McMannen and Allison Waner. McMannen posted 13 points and five boards, while Waner earned two points and six rebounds. McMannen is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 44% in the last three games she's played.

Seventy-First found their leader in sophomore Jewel Gully, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, Gully is now averaging an impressive 8 rebounds per game. Alani-Skye Wilkerson was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards.

Croatan's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points over those games. As for Seventy-First, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.

Croatan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Seventy-First, they will head out on the road to face off against Western Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Western Alamance knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Seventy-First likes a good challenge.
