Basketball Recap: Gretchen Seagren's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wahoo over Waverly

After flying high against Ralston last Tuesday, Wahoo came back down to earth. The Wahoo Warriors fell just short of the Waverly Vikings by a score of 35-33 on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now lost five in a row.

Wahoo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gretchen Seagren, who posted ten points in addition to seven boards and four blocks. Seagren has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gracey Fairbanks, who put up eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Wahoo's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Waverly, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

Wahoo will take on Platteview in a tournament on Monday. As for Waverly, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Standing Bear at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Waverly's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Standing Bear has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
