The Bentworth Bearcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Waynesburg Central Raiders at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bentworth took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Frazier by a score of 5-2.
Sam Wade was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ben Hayes and Zeek Malanowsky did most of the damage at the plate: Hayes scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Malanowsky scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Hayes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lucas Burt, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Waynesburg Central put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Brownsville as Waynesburg Central made off with a 13-5 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.
Like Bentworth, Waynesburg Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Tyler Groves. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Groves was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Alex VanSickle was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two triples and two runs. Those triples marked the first that he hit this season. Austin Surber was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Waynesburg Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.
Waynesburg Central pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bentworth, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Bentworth couldn't quite get it done against Waynesburg Central in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can Bentworth avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
