Softball Recap: Briarwood Christian's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Briarwood Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the Shelby County Wildcats 10-8. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lions as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Larsen Cummings made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 14 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Cummings was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, MK Sweatt was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Ashley Heinemann was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run and two runs.

Briarwood Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Briarwood Christian's victory bumped their record up to 4-13-1. As for Shelby County, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.

Looking ahead, Briarwood Christian will look to defend their home field on Monday against John Carroll Catholic at 5:00 p.m. The Lions are facing the Cavaliers at the right time seeing as the Cavaliers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Shelby County, they will head out on the road to challenge Central of Clay County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
