Lake Central strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on the Illiana Christian Vikings with a sharp 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won three matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Grant Mercer looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jake Figg was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Figg is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Jacob Zimmerman was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Lake Central pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.0 runs this season. As for Illiana Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Lake Central has already played their next game, a 10-4 victory against Hammond Bishop Noll on the 12th. As for Illiana Christian, they will take on Wheeler at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. This will be the Vikings' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
