Softball Recap: St. Luke's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

St. Luke waltzed into their match on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Greens Farms Academy Dragons with a sharp 11-1 win. This was payback for the Storm, who suffered a 13-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Caroline D'Onofrio and Lucia Biasotti made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, D'Onofrio pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Biasotti tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, D'Onofrio went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Biasotti went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucy Millones, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Leah Seitz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

St. Luke's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in five consecutive games.

St. Luke's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Greens Farms Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, St. Luke's will head out on the road to take on Loomis Chaffee School at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Greens Farms Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Greenwich Country Day at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
