After a string of four wins, the Wayne Hills Patriots's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 57-48 to Wayne Valley. Wayne Hills has struggled against Wayne Valley recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Wayne Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Apicella led the charge by scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Apicella hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Omar Ali was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Wayne Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Wayne Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
Wayne Hills will head out on the road to challenge Kennedy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kennedy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Wayne Hills likes a good challenge. As for Wayne Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Manchester Regional at 1:00 p.m. Manchester Regional will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while Wayne Valley is ranked 39th).
