Seventy-First hasn't had much luck against Purnell Swett recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Having struggled with five losses in a row, Seventy-First turned things around against Douglas Byrd on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 34-10 margin over the Eagles. With that victory, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Hazel Singletary was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Niah Mays, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Seventy-First always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Purnell Swett hadn't beaten Lumberton on the road since April 29, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. Purnell Swett walked away with a 13-8 win over Lumberton.
Kam Locklear made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Locklear was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Chavis, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Shaniya Lewis was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
Seventy-First's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-5. As for Purnell Swett, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Seventy-First has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .538. However, it's not like Purnell Swett struggles in that department as they've averaged .468. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seventy-First might still be hurting after the 18-3 defeat they got from Purnell Swett in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Seventy-First avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
