Basketball Recap: Mattoon Comes Up Short

Mattoon lost against Richland County back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Mattoon Greenwave took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Richland County Tigers. The Greenwave's defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Leading Richland County to victory were Arjay Keller and Casey Thomann. Keller went 10 of 16 en route to 25 points and five rebounds, while Thomann dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Keller has scored at least a third of Richland County's points. Another player making a difference was Reid Brown, who posted four points.

Mattoon's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Richland County, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Mattoon will head out to take on Marion at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Marion will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Mattoon surely won't give up without a fight. As for Richland County, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Richland County Tigers challenge the Salem Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Richland County is facing Salem at the right time seeing as Salem is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
