Baseball Game Preview: Poudre Impalas vs. El Capitan Vaqueros

The Poudre Impalas will venture away from home to face off against the El Capitan Vaqueros at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Poudre is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Denver North. That's two games in a row now that the Impalas have lost by just one run.

Poudre saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brett Lamb, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Lamb has posted since back in March of 2024. Another was Brady Santillanes, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, El Capitan made easy work of San Diego on Monday and carried off a 13-7 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vaqueros.

The team relied heavily on David Vera, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Harbach, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two doubles.

El Capitan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Diego only managed six hits.

Poudre's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for El Capitan, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
