Baseball Recap: Eagle Takes a Loss

Eagle has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.18 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Timberline Wolves. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Stephen Egan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Eagle saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Zawadzki, who scored a run while going 2-for-5. Another was Easton Gothberg, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.

Eagle has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Timberline, with the win, they broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eagle will welcome Boise at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Brave have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Timberline, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Kuna at 6:30 p.m. The Kavemen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Wolves will no doubt try to take advantage of.
