Football Recap: Jay Piles Up the Points Against Southside

Jay won the last time they faced Southside and things went their way on Friday too. The Mustangs blew past the Cardinals 37-6. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six games by 28 points or more so far this season.

Leading Jay to victory were Tajari Wellington and Brennan Oliver. Wellington threw for 143 yards and one touchdown on only 12 passes, while Oliver rushed for 49 yards and one score.

Jay didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Victor Baldwin and Wallace Wellington. Baldwin has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last four times he's played. Another thorn in Southside's side was Mario Cardenas, who picked up two sacks and made five total tackles.

Jay pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.0 points over those games. As for Southside, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Jay and Southside are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Mustangs will challenge Pieper on Thursday. Jay will be up against the Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Southside, they will face off against Smithson Valley on Thursday. The Rangers' defense has only allowed 11.5 points per game this season, so the Cardinals' offense will have their work cut out for them.
