Mojave extended the longest winning streak in 8-Man Freelance (8 Man) this week by beating Trona, 56-29. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Mustangs.
St. Michael's Prep led the league in scoring this week after putting up 64 points on San Jacinto Valley Academy.
Calvary Chapel's dynamic duo of Nathan Jewell and B.J. Bell proved tough for Lighthouse Christian to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jewell threw for 95 yards and one touchdown and Bell had 47 yards receiving. Zechariah Laidlaw helped Calvary Chapel's passing attack out by catching one ball for 35 yards.
Nate Debruno provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Orcutt Academy topped Valley Christian Academy. He completed two passes for 53 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 249 yards.
The Grizzlies' Jewell and Laidlaw have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Jewell has thrown for 1770 yards this season, while Laidlaw, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 36 catches for 657 yards. The Spartans' Robert Reed leads the league in rushing yards with 822.
Orcutt Academy made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 542 from 708. The improvement came about via a 63-28 victory over the Lions last week.
