Softball Game Preview: St. John's Mavericks vs. Kinkaid Falcons

The St. John's Mavericks will face off against the Kinkaid Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. John's will be strutting in after a victory while Kinkaid will be coming in after a loss.

St. John's will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating HCYA, who they had gone 1-7-1 against in their nine prior meetings. The Mavericks came out on top in a nail-biter against HCYA on Thursday, sneaking past 10-9.

Yutia Li was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Avery Peakes was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Kinkaid came up short against Concordia Lutheran on Thursday and fell 9-6. The Falcons have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

St. John's has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Kinkaid, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6-1.

St. John's took their victory against Kinkaid when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
