Soccer Game Preview: Holmes vs. Sotomayor

Holmes hasn't had much luck against Sotomayor recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Huskies will be playing in front of their home fans against the WILDCATS at 5:00 p.m. Holmes has given up an average of 3.6 goals per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Holmes fell victim to Warren and their airtight defense on Friday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, Holmes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 506th, while Warren are ranked 48th).

Meanwhile, Sotomayor kept a clean sheet against Marshall on Friday. They blew past the Rams 6-0. Sotomayor might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by three goals or more this season.

Their offense was hitting Marshall from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Emma Reyes led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Sotomayor has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 32 goals over those eight matchups. As for Holmes, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Holmes might still be hurting after the 5-0 defeat they got from Sotomayor when the teams last played back in February of 2025. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
