Baseball Recap: Fairless Comes Up Short

Fairless was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Orrville Red Riders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Riders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on Monday.

Mike Ritterbeck put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Ritterbeck wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Blake Gregorich, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Fairless' loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Orrville, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairless will take on Manchester at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Orrville, they will challenge Coventry at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Comets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.71 runs per game on average), something the Red Riders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
