Basketball Recap: Payton Ford's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Seeger over Covington

Seeger was the 50-49 winner over Covington when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Seeger Patriots fell to the Covington Trojans 56-50.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Payton Ford, who posted seven points and five boards. Those five rebounds gave Ford a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Macyn Hughes, who earned nine points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Covington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Austin Stein, who put up 18 points in addition to eight assists and six boards. Landon Herzog was another key player, going 5-for-7 to rack up 13 points and seven rebounds.

Seeger's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Covington, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season.

Looking ahead, Seeger will face off against Parke Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st. Parke Heritage knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Seeger likes a good challenge. As for Covington, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-38 loss against Clinton Prairie on the 15th.
