Recap: Maranatha Minutemen vs. Serra Cavaliers

It was a good run, but the Maranatha Minutemen unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Serra by a score of 72-69. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Maranatha has suffered yet this season.

Despite the loss, Maranatha still got an impressive performance from Trevor Cohen, who scored 17 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Cohen scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Smith, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

Maranatha's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Serra, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-8.

Maranatha won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Heritage Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Heritage Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Maranatha likes a good challenge. As for Serra, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy at 7:00 p.m. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Serra in California (St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy is ranked 11th, while Serra is ranked 167th).
