Football Recap: Linton-Stockton Beats North Decatur for Their Third Straight Victory

Linton-Stockton extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 4-2. They took down the North Decatur Chargers 36-20. Linton-Stockton's victory was all the more impressive since the Chargers were averaging only 13.83 points allowed on the season.

Linton-Stockton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cooper Smith led the charge by rushing for 93 yards and one TD, while also picking up 115 receiving yards. Those 93 rushing yards gave Smith a new career-high. Paul Oliver was another key player, throwing for 158 yards and one touchdown while completing 80% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Linton-Stockton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 289 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 289 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Linton-Stockton's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Corey Andrews, Oliver, and Aidan Sparks, who each picked up one sack apiece. Linton-Stockton got some further help from Andrews: he picked up a sack, made 15 total tackles, and defended two passes.

Having lost for the first time this season, North Decatur fell to 5-1. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Although North Decatur took the loss, they still got scores from Corbin Thackery, Matthew Fields, and Carter Gray.

Linton-Stockton has already played their next contest, a 54-7 win against North Knox on the 3rd. As for North Decatur, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 59-14 victory against Eastern Greene on the 3rd.
