Softball Game Preview: Englewood Rams vs. Matanzas Pirates

The Englewood Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Matanzas Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Englewood has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with six straight losses, while Matanzas will come in with 11 straight wins.

Englewood fell victim to Andrew Jackson and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Matanzas got themselves on the board against West Nassau on Tuesday, but West Nassau never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Warriors 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past LEAH STEVENS, who gave up just five hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep West Nassau off the board. STEVENS has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

Matanzas hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive games.

Matanzas' win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Englewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
