Jocelyn Pena was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. Pena was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played.
In other batting news, Madelyn Lunardini was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Leah Charles, who went 3-for-5 with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Springfield Renaissance always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .696. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Pope Francis Prep had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Orioles 9-7.
The team relied heavily on Taylor Moreau, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Lily Frost was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.
Pope Francis Prep's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Springfield Renaissance, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Springfield Renaissance has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 14.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pope Francis Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
