Softball Recap: Romeo Triumphs

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Romeo nor Utica made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Bulldogs walked away with a 7-2 win over the Chieftains. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Chieftains recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Katie Murphy looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Romeo let Sarah Jesperson and Bailey Anton run wild. Jesperson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Anton went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Anton has posted since back in May of 2025. Evie Condon was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Romeo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.

Romeo's record now sits at 20-4. As for Utica, their loss dropped their record down to 11-14.

Coming up, Romeo will take on Stoney Creek at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Utica, they will square off against Hudsonville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Chieftains' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
