Olathe East faced Lawrence Free State in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Hawks were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Firebirds. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

The win (which was Olathe East's fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lawrence Free State, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 8-2.

Looking ahead, Olathe East will head out to challenge Deer Creek at 11:15 a.m. on Friday. As for Lawrence Free State, they will be playing at home against St. James Academy on Thursday. The Thunder have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.69 runs per game on average), something the Firebirds will no doubt try to take advantage of.
