Softball Recap: North Brunswick Triumphs

North Brunswick hadn't done well against Topsail recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. North Brunswick had just enough and edged out Topsail 8-7. This was payback for the Scorpions, who suffered a 6-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Shanley Hunt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.

On the hitting side, North Brunswick let Jamya Hansley and Jada Thomas run wild. Hansley scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Thomas scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Thomas a new career-high. Katherine Kayler was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: North Brunswick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

North Brunswick's record now sits at 5-3. As for Topsail, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

North Brunswick has already played their next match, an 18-3 victory against East Columbus on the 20th. As for Topsail, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against South Brunswick on the 21st.
