Basketball Recap: Halifax Academy Vikings vs. Brunswick Academy Vikings
The Halifax Academy Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell 43-33 to Brunswick Academy. While losing is never fun, Halifax Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 291st in North Carolina, while the Vikings are ranked 141st in Virginia).
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayden Barlow, who scored 12 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Karson Ricks, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Brunswick Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily King, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which King has scored at least a third of Brunswick Academy's points. Haley Reese was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Halifax Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-10. As for Brunswick Academy, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.
Halifax Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Brunswick Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Amelia Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
