Softball Recap: Seaman Drops Season-High Score on Leavenworth

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seaman). Everything went their way against the Leavenworth PIONEERS on Tuesday as they made off with an 18-0 victory. The Vikings have beaten the PIONEERS the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the PIONEERS has come to flipping the script.

Lydia Dreher looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Seaman got a massive performance out of Anna McLaughlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs McLaughlin has posted since back in April of 2024. Acey Thompson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Seaman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Seaman pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Leavenworth, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Seaman beat the PIONEERS by a score of 19-3 later that day.
