Softball Preview: Pitman Pride vs. Gregori Jaguars

Pitman is 2-8 against Gregori since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Pitman Pride will head out on the road to take on the Gregori Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. The pair are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Pitman took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Downey 13-2.

Pitman got a great performance from Jillian Baylard as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Baylard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in ten consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Rylee Reeves was incredible, firing off six RBI, four doubles, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Ella Underwood was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, Gregori can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 12-5 margin over Modesto. The victory was nothing new for Gregori as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Allyson Conway spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Alyssa Blanco and Kylee Huff did most of the damage at the plate: Blanco scored two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Huff scored a run while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Gabby Castro, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

The win got Pitman back to even at 10-10. As for Gregori, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Pitman has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Gregori struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Pitman might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Gregori in their previous meeting back in April. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gregori's Kailey Estes, who kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Now that Pitman knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
