Basketball Game Preview: South Brunswick Cougars vs. Laney Buccaneers

South Brunswick is 0-10 against Laney since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The South Brunswick Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Laney Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, South Brunswick ended up a good deal behind Topsail and lost 46-30. The matchup marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Aubree Adams, who posted three points and ten rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Meryn Deutsch, who put up ten points.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 61-24, which was the final score in Laney's tilt against New Hanover on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Laney's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-5. As for South Brunswick, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Things could have been worse for South Brunswick, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 42-28 loss to Laney in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can South Brunswick avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
