Recap: Madison Marlins vs. Sterling Raiders

The Madison Marlins came tearing into Friday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 70-63 win over Sterling. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

It was another big night for Marquez Hubbard-chenault, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicolas Golden, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Sterling's loss came despite strong showings from Christian Rogers and Kevon Bowens. Rogers scored 17 points along with six rebounds, while Bowens scored 18 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Bowens posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Joshua Augustine, who scored six points along with five rebounds.

Sterling struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Madison racked up ten assists.

Madison has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Sterling, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-7.

Madison's road trip will continue as they head out to face Sharpstown at 8:30 p.m. on January 19th. Sharpstown will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1323rd, while Madison is ranked 345th). As for Sterling, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Galena Park at 6:00 p.m.
