Softball Recap: Kearns Takes a Loss

Kearns had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it 14. They came up short against the West Jordan Jaguars, falling 13-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 last Tuesday.

Kearns saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sky Aguirre, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Aguirre is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for West Jordan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Considering they have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On West Jordan's side, Rita Tavita was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Tavita has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lafiana Fifita, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Hailey Fox was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kearns will face off against Cyprus at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for West Jordan, they will square off against Farmington at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
