Baseball Recap: Economedes Jaguars vs. Edinburg Bobcats
It was a proper cat-fight when Economedes faced off against Edinburg on Friday. The Jaguars fell 4-1 to the Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 last Tuesday.
Josiah Villareal was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Villareal wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gilbert Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Economedes has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. As for Edinburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-13.
