Baseball Recap: Calhoun Wins Going Away Against Ingleside

Calhoun's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Ingleside Mustangs. The victory continues a trend for the Sandcrabs in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won six in a row.

Ricky Martinez and Demetrio Rodriguez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Martinez pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Rodriguez didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Calhoun is 2-1 when Rodriguez allows three or fewer hits, but 8-11-1 otherwise. At bat, Martinez scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave Rodriguez a new career-high.

In other batting news, Calhoun let Tucker Amerson and Ethen Ramirez run wild. Amerson scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Ramirez scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Ramirez has become a key player for Calhoun: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cayson Laredo, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Calhoun's win bumped their record up to 10-12-1. As for Ingleside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12-1 record this season.

Coincidentally, Calhoun and Ingleside will both be playing Jones the next time they take the field. The Sandcrabs will host the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Mustangs will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
