Softball Recap: Shadyside's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

If Shadyside was feeling good fresh off their 17-4 takedown of Beallsville on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers came up short against the Monroe Central Seminoles on Wednesday, falling 13-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 9-8 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Ariana Saxton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and ten unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kaylie Warnock was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Reese Burkhart was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

Shadyside moved to 10-8 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Monroe Central, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shadyside beat the Seminoles by a score of 7-2 later that day.
