Baseball Recap: Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Heritage Christian Defenders. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly ten runs.

Austin McKimmy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hammond Academy of Science & Tech's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Michniewicz, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and seven RBI. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Anthony Concepcion was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

As for Heritage Christian, they will be taking part in a tournament against Indy Genesis HomeSchool at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. The Defenders are facing the Indy Genesis at the right time seeing as the Indy Genesis are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
