Basketball Recap: Arapahoe Takes a Loss

Arapahoe was the 67-24 winner over Rock Canyon when they last played one another back in December of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Arapahoe Warriors took a 58-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rock Canyon Jaguars. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Arapahoe still got an impressive performance from Gianna Smith, who went 8 of 18 en route to 24 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That was a full 45.3% of Arapahoe's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Ava Budler was another key player, going 6 for 11 on her way to 17 points.

Even though they lost, Arapahoe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rock Canyon only pulled down one offensive rebound.

Alyssa Goode was a one-woman wrecking crew for Rock Canyon as she went 5 of 8 en route to 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Goode is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Brooke Harding, who earned 15 points and seven rebounds.

Arapahoe's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Rock Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Arapahoe will head out to challenge Cherry Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cherry Creek will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Arapahoe surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rock Canyon, they will head out on the road to take on Mountain Vista at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Rock Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season.
