Football Recap: Calhoun Academy Piles Up the Points Against Orangeburg Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calhoun Academy). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Orangeburg Prep Indians 51-12. Considering the Cavaliers have won four games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Colt Layton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 225 yards and six TDs while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 15 rushing touchdowns on the season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Calhoun Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 311 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 221 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Calhoun Academy's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. C-Rob Thornton was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making six total tackles.

Calhoun Academy pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.3 points on average over those games. As for Orangeburg Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calhoun Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Carolina Academy at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th. As for Orangeburg Prep, they will challenge Spartanburg Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
