Recap: Marvin Ridge Mavericks vs. Porter Ridge Pirates
The Marvin Ridge Mavericks scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Porter Ridge 80-58. Given Marvin Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Porter Ridge is ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marvin Ridge had a senior duo take command as Josh Clark scored 21 points along with seven assists and Cinjun Bridges scored 14 points along with seven assists and three steals. Brady Dunn was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Porter Ridge's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dennis Kurucu, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Yelverton, who scored 13 points.
Marvin Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Porter Ridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Marvin Ridge will square off against Cuthbertson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cuthbertson has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 4. As for Porter Ridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Weddington at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Weddington has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 704 points over their last ten matches.
