League recap: Liburd races to league-leading run for Piper

8A District 11 recap November 13, 2013

Piper's Travis Liburd recorded the longest rushing play in 8A District 11 this season in his game against Everglades last week. Liburd scampered for 76 yards on the play and finished with 150 on the day as his team lost to the Gators.

Deerfield Beach extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating St. Thomas Aquinas, 22-7. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Bucks.

Piper's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jesse Barrows threw for 45 yards and Leenard Ewing had 30 yards receiving. On the ground Liburd contributed 150 yards.

Roger Mitchell's team's dynamic duo of Barrows and Ewing proved to be unstoppable against Everglades, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Liburd was a passing and rushing force as the Bengals lost to Art Taylor's team. Liburd's favorite target this week was Ewing, who caught 2 passes for 30 yards.

Douglas's Brett Israel and Corey May led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Israel has thrown for 1,560 yards this season, while May has 32 catches for 625 yards. Liburd from Piper leads the league in rushing with 1,696 yards.

Davian Daley has rushed for 951 yards on 128 carries so far this year.

The Eagles scaled the state rankings by moving to 223 from 299 this week, the biggest jump in 8A District 11. Douglas was able to move up by beating Nova 46-0.
