Basketball Recap: Economedes Comes Up Short

Economedes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 39-27 to the Edinburg North Cougars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-13 on January 3rd.

When it comes to explaining why Economedes lost, don't look at Natalie Elizondo. Despite the final result, she went 5 for 7 en route to 14 points and five boards. Alessey Rodriguez was another key player, putting up four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Economedes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Edinburg North's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Roxanna Rodriguez, who posted nine points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Josselyn Quintanilla, who put up nine points and seven boards.

Economedes' defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Edinburg North, their win ended an eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-19.

Economedes didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 30-27 victory against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on the 24th. Edinburg North has also already played their next contest, a 60-18 loss against Weslaco on the 24th.
