Recap: Massac County Patriots vs. Vienna Eagles
The Massac County Patriots had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They took down Vienna 77-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Massac County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Will Harmon led the charge by scoring 22 points. Isaac Hosman was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Owen Treat, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. Treat has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Webb, who scored 15 points along with two blocks.
Massac County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Vienna, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Massac County and Murphysboro will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Vienna, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Christopher at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Christopher will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 416th, while Vienna is ranked 176th).
