The Floyd Central Jaguars will head out on the road to square off against the Magoffin County Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Floyd Central is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Knott County Central on Monday. They fell 5-1 to the Patriots. The Jaguars' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Floyd Central got a good showing from Landon Prater, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Prater has allowed since back in March.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Magoffin County). They blew past Martin County 13-7 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hornets needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Michael Trusty was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Isaac Howard was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those RBI were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brayden Bailey, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.
Magoffin County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
With the win, Magoffin County broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-12. As for Floyd Central, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Floyd Central took their victory against Magoffin County when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
