Baseball Recap: Leslie County Has No Trouble Against Buckhorn

Leslie County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Buckhorn on Thursday. The Eagles blew past the Wildcats 14-1. That looming 14-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.

Connor Russell tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.

At the plate, Rylan Simpson was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Leslie County: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 7-21 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Baker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI.

Leslie County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Leslie County's win bumped their record up to 9-22. As for Buckhorn, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-20.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leslie County will host Magoffin County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Buckhorn, they will square off against Owsley County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Owls / Lady Owls will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
