Baseball Game Preview: North East Carolina Prep Husky vs. Bertie Falcons

For the second straight game, North East Carolina Prep will face off against Bertie. The Husky will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. North East Carolina Prep has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 24.

North East Carolina Prep came up short against Bertie on Tuesday, falling 15-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Husky have suffered against the Falcons since March 7, 2019.

For Bertie's part, Michael Thompson, III was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. Thompson, III has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Bertie: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Christian Cordon was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Jesse Williams was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base.

Bertie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Bertie's win bumped their record up to 6-13. As for North East Carolina Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
