Basketball Recap: Santa Clara Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Santa Clara came into Monday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They enjoyed a cozy 66-52 victory over the Channel Islands Raiders on Monday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Saints' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1093rd, while the Raiders are ranked 465th).

Santa Clara's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jj Ward, who posted 20 points along with seven boards and five assists. Gio Gude was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 20 points.

Despite the loss, Channel Islands still got an impressive performance from Chris Anguiano, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points. Another player making a difference was JD Pettit, who scored eight points and 11 rebounds.

Santa Clara's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-19. As for Channel Islands, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-5.

Santa Clara wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 73-56 defeat against Dunn on the 24th. Channel Islands has also already played their next contest, an 81-45 win against Fillmore on the 22nd.
