Baseball Recap: Hesperia Christian Triumphs

Hesperia Christian was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the California Lutheran C-Hawks. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the C-Hawks: they've now won three in a row.

Gabe Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Hesperia Christian's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 3-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Sanchez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Hesperia Christian let Joe Kelly and Dakota McCloud run wild. Kelly scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3, while McCloud went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Kelly a new career-high.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-6. As for California Lutheran, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Hesperia Christian will head out on the road to face off against Academy for Academic Excellence at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for California Lutheran, they will host Cornerstone Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
