Baseball Recap: Apollo Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Mccracken County

Apollo faced McCracken County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Eagles fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 6-4. That makes it the first time this season the Eagles have let down their home crowd.

Apollo saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Holder, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Gunnar Hendricks also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Apollo's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for McCracken County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.

Looking ahead, Apollo will square off against Lyon County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 1.9, the Lyons 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for McCracken County, they will venture away from home to take on Daviess County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
