Basketball Recap: Lake Comes Up Short

Lake was the 81-70 winner over Washington when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Lake Blue Streaks took a hard 68-50 fall against the Washington Tigers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Blue Streaks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Tigers are ranked 17th).

Washington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but La Nia Moore led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 14 boards. Moore has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. Delaney Pierce was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Lake has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Washington, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Lake will face off against McKinley at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake is facing McKinley at the right time seeing as McKinley is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Washington, they will take on Stow-Munroe Falls at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Washington's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
