Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Victories for Mathis

While Mathis's victory against Odem wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates had just enough and edged out the Owls 11-10 on Tuesday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Owls recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Alyssa Herrera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and five unearned) runs on 14 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marivel Martinez was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelina Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Mathis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 18 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Mathis pushed their record up to 13-6-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Odem, they moved to 12-14 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
