Franklin Towne heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Tuesday. They fell just short of Philadelphia Academy Charter by a score of 13-12. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Ann Bernard and Abigail Pelczar stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bernard went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Pelczar went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Rebecca Layton, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Cardinal O'Hara's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over Conwell-Egan Catholic. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Hayden Sissons's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Dill, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Hayden Reale was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Cardinal O'Hara pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Franklin Towne, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-3.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Franklin Towne hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Cardinal O'Hara struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
